Great Saints of the Orthodox Church - St Nektarios the Wonderworker, Metropolitan of Pentapolis

St. Nektarios the Wonderworker, Metropolitan of Pentapolis was born in 1846, in Selyvria  of Thrace. When he was 29 years old, he became a monk on the Island of Chios. Because of his virtue, he was ordained a deacon and was an assistant  to the Patriarch of Alexandria, who sent him to study theology in Athens. He was ordained to the priesthood and later was consecrated Metropolitan of Pentapolis. Due to jealousy and alleged improprieties, Nicodemus was removed from office. He was rejected again in Athens and sent to the island of Euboea, where the people embraced him. He became the Dean of the School of Theology in Athens and published many of his theological works. He retired to the island of Agegina in 1910 and established a convent there. Ten years later he was admitted to a hospital ward for the poor and incurable Athens where he gave up his spirit. When they placed the saints sweater on the bed of the paralytic, he immediately regained his strength and walked. A beautiful fragrance filled the room for many days after the saint's death. The room is now in chapel. St. Nekarios was buried at his convent in Aegina, where he remained whole and fragrant for years. Many miraculous healings took place throughout the world through the saints prayers.
